The Spa at The Oyster Box – new treatments & specials

A few weeks ago I was invited to The Spa at The Oyster Box for a morning of pampering to showcase some of their new face and body treatments. I’ve always been a fan of Dermalogica, but haven’t had their new BioSurface Peel, so I was keen to see what that was all about. Along with Dermalogica, the spa also uses Elemis, Mama Mio & Mio, as well as their own B|Africa ranges, so as well as our own body massage treatments, we got the low down on a variety of their new treatments over the course of the morning.

I’ve never had children, but I have a tummy which says otherwise! So I did ask if the following Mama Mio treatment was only for post-preggie tummies – and it’s not – your love handles qualify for this treatment too ;)

The Mama Mio Get Waisted® Tummy Sculpting Treatment is a 1 hour treatment which promises to leave your tummy feeling slimmer, tighter, more toned and less bloated. Powerful actives increase the energy within your skin and the special Mio massage technique firms & re-sculpts, reducing wobble & love handles. I asked the lady having the treatment done if it felt uncomfortable at all and she said it was actually quite pleasant – your tummy and the area up to underneath your bra strap are massaged consistently for the duration of the treatment and I can imagine that it gets the circulation going big time – I just have to pluck up the nerve to let someone touch my love handles!

We also watched the Elemis Body Sculpting Cellulite and Colon Therapy treatment which helps to redefine and smooth your silhouette by combining Elemis’ clinically proven Body Sculpting System with a detoxifying birch and fennel peel-off mask. Again, there’s lots of massage involved across the abdomen, hips and thighs and the vigorous drainage massage techniques help with colon cleansing & to smooth the appearance of cellulite. There’s also a big boost in circulation and reduction in fluid retention, resulting in skin that is firmer & smoother to touch. This is perfect for sluggish tummies or for those people who have perhaps over-indulged over the holidays or just in general!

A course of treatments is recommended for both the Mama Mio Get Waisted® Tummy Sculpting Treatment and the Elemis Body Sculpting Cellulite & Colon Therapy , but having either once off, is also highly beneficial.

We then watched 2 facial demos – the Elemis BioTec Facial & the Dermalogica Advanced Skin Treatment BioSurface™ Peel. Neither of these treatments are invasive, so your skin is not going to actually peel and flake off afterwards, or leave you looking like a raw tomato. They are both conducted in a short space of time and are quite relaxing at the same time.

The Elemis BioTec Facial combines technology, touch & actives to deliver immediately visible, longer-lasting results. A machine is pressed on the skin in combination with the Elemis actives, to deliver a super-charged facial, powered by 5 treatment technologies, each targeting a specific skin need which the therapist will determine for you specifically. The model having this treatment was in a serious state of bliss and said there was absolutely no pain when the machine was being used, but that afterwards her skin felt so smooth and plump and very clean.

So the treatment I had most wanted to see was the Dermalogica Advanced Skin Treatment BioSurface™ Peel. This peel is a biologically active, biphasic peel that aims to decrease surface roughness, treat acne, reduce fine lines & fade pigmentation in the skin – whilst still being non-invasive. The model’s skin looked so good after the treatment, that I promptly booked myself in for one the following week and it was incredible how good my skin felt afterwards. A series of cream layers are put onto your face and left for up to 10 minutes a time – I went up to 3 layers for this 1st treatment and my skin hardly tingled at all, but was seriously glowing afterwards. There was a little bit of redness around my nose afterwards – but that is the most sensitive part of my skin anyway and was to be expected. In the 2 weeks since I had it done, I’ve had minimal breakouts (I often break out on my chin), the dehydration I usually have on my cheeks is much less noticeable and the skin of my forehead definitely appears smoother – an area I battle with.
I did splash out on some the powerbright TRx range which has now replaced the ChromaWhite TRx Dermalogica range. I got the c-12 pure bright serum and the pure night nourishing overnight treatment cream, so both of these have helped immensely too. They are pretty pricey, but totally worth it as a little goes a very long way.

I relaxed in the plunge pool afterwards, while the hammam was prepared for me and then tried that out for the first time too which was amazing – a 30 minute steam in the most tranquil setting and then a long hot shower afterwards and a relax in the tranquility lounge had me feeling like a totally new person. Highly recommended if you need to recharge your batteries!
