An initiative close to my heart – Movember is upon us again.
It’s a month for crazy beards, embarrassed moustaches, over the top facial hair and lots of excuses – yes we’ve heard them all – “my boss won’t let us grow mo’s”, “I look dumb with a mo”, “my hair grows funny”, blah blah blah…
So what is Movember about anyway?
Here’s the official splurb:
The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising R5.7 billion and funding over 1,000 programmes focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.
But it’s also about having fun whilst creating awareness of one of the biggest health issues facing men. We all know guys who dread the finger exam, but it could save a life, so by talking about it and creating a month called Movember and raising awareness, means that more guys could either get the all clear, or early diagnosis and get treatment sooner rather than later.
And don’t forget – the girls are encouraged to support Movember too – no you don’t have to grow a mo (Although I’ve seen some gals with them – wax chicks!!!) – by becoming a Mo Sista and supporting your guys during the month – register here.
So, point and laugh if you will, but please show your support too, it’s for a great cause.
