Last year I watched 2 live productions which have got me so excited to see some more this year – there’s something so amazing about live theatre and with shows the like of Puss in Boots and Aladdin, I was immensely proud of our local talent.
I’m off to see Superchop this week when it opens at The Sneddon, starring Jacobus Van Heerden who was recently seen as Lord Farquaad in KickstArt’s Shrek. This is a satirical comedy parodying the famous – and those desperate to be famous. It’ll combine a cast of unforgettable characters with video, song and dance and I’m sure it’s going to be hilarious.
Superchop first previewed at the 2013 Musho! Festival where it wowed audiences and scooped awards, but it’s since been reinvented to showcase an amazing set, as well as choreography by David Gouldie.
Here are some of the reviews:
“From an egomaniac superstar to rapping geriatric, Afrikaans crooner to effete fitness instructor, right through to an aggressive cage fighter, Van Heerden shows his mettle through a series of sketches. Riotous and offbeat, the production is a laugh-a-minute” – Clinton Marius
“The dialogue is not only funny and witty, it is cleverly constructed with puns and innuendos… Brilliant performance and outstanding technical effects make this a “must see” show!” – Dawn Hayes
“His presentation of these wonderful characters was an absolute delight and my ribs were aching from laughing long before the end of the show… Benson you are my hero!” – Keith Miller
