well i am 5 – 100 days to healthy

askashe_welliam
It’s almost time for the 2016 well i am challenge to begin – 100 days of healthy could be the change you need to transform your life and I’ve got two basic entries to giveaway too!

I did the well i am challenge last year and really enjoyed their focus on overall wellness, as opposed to just being a diet and fitness challenge. Their entry & prize incentives are amazing, but along with those comes a supportive community of experts and challengers, who keep you motivated and inspired, so your healthy habits are easier to implement, promoting life-long change.

Over 100 days, from 9th March until 16th June 2016, you’ll get the benefit of your basic wellness kit, formal health screenings, training programmes, experts and online content, plus the option to add an online coach to your package and take advantage of exclusive discount offers from Philips on appliances.

So what will the well i am 2016 winners win?
There’s R40 000 cash each, plus additional prizes for the 2 overall winners.
There’s a new category exclusively for over 45s – compete for R10 000 plus prizes against a narrower margin of contestants.
Plus weekly incentives up for grabs throughout the 100 healthy days available to all challengers .

All you have to do to get in on the 2016 challenge is sign up on the well i am website, and little secret – sign up before 14th February and qualify for reduced rates on Philips appliances throughout the challenge. I got the Philips airfryer last year and that thing is the shizzness – haven’t friend anything since – use it almost every second day!

What does your basic R549 sign up get you?

  • a wellness kit packed with healthy extras delivered to your door
  • formal before & after health screenings at Dis-Chem
  • a directory of certified training programmes and eating plans from the experts
  • entry into the Members Locker – an exclusive online community of fellow challengers, all sharing their well i am journey
  • access to industry experts offering online forums throughout the challenge
  • additional incentivised ‘mini-challenges’, like the brand new Sugar-Free Detox
  • an ongoing supply of educational, inspirational health content, helping to cement healthy habits long-term

My 2016 wellness goals are simple & Tristan Bezuidenhout’s are the same:
    – Keep fit, always, as opposed to only being fit at certain times of the year. Because getting back into it is just too tough.
    – Cut down on sugar & carbs
    – Regularly detox
    – Be able to sleep well
    – Train with purpose & guidance, as opposed to training in a way that makes me ‘comfortable’

My main goal and aim for this year is: no excuses! I always find myself making excuses for not exercising, drinking enough water or eating healthier.

But I know making small changes everyday will definitely influence me in living a healthier more active life. Drinking at least 3lt of water is my biggest challenge at the moment.

I entered the previous challenge and it helped a lot with all the support and of course who doesn’t like the goodies that go with the challenge.

I would also like to nominate Nelshe Botha. I really want her to experience the support I did last year.

I know that I make these goals EVERY SINGLE YEAR and sometimes I do not stick to them. By July I give up or forget all about them. But this year is different. Why? Because I am so determined to reach my goals this year. That is why I will not call them resolutions but MUSTS.
I’ve been on this fitness journey for 15 months. I have made a lot of progress but in hindsight I could have done better. So here’s what I hope to accomplish in 2016:
    1. Drink 2 litres of water a day. I’m nearly there. I drink 2 x 750ml most days. I just need to add that last 500ml. I MUST remind myself to drink during the day.
    2. Workout 5 times a week. I normally train every week day but it happens that I cannot train at all. I MUST train over the weekend if I skipped one workout.
    3. Eat healthier. For the past month I tried not to eat any carbs or added sugar. I tried to resist temptation whenever I can but it’s really hard some days. Especially today when my son asked me if we could bake some cupcakes. Without thinking I licked the spoon. But I realised what I was doing. I won’t be having a cupcake… MUST… resist… the… Urge! I’ve been doing research on the Paleo Diet and I’m trying to eat like I’m a caveman and foraging for food in the freezer. So when I crave bread and pasta my inner Za (that’s the Neanderthal me) reminds me that they did not have the capability to make either one of those. Za is a bit more evolved – she knows how to make fire. So I can at least boil my eggs. Raw eggs is just disgusting. She might live in a cave but she has standards.
    4. I give in to easy. I MUST learn not to declare each day a CHEAT DAY! If my body really craved sugar I will cheat! But just a little bit. Like eating a block of chocolate and NOT the whole DAMN SLAB!!
I’ve lost about 13kg before I gained 8kg again. I think the main problem I have is that I do not really know what I’m doing. To have someone help me and make sure I do all the right workouts to lose weight and tone up will be a great plus. And when I work for someone I normally give my all because I have this deep desire to always win. This would change my whole life. I wanted to enter but finances is a bit tight these past couple of months!

This year we are off to Ibiza. I haven’t been there since my honeymoon, and I have to say since having 2 children my body shape is somewhat different to then!!! So I aim to reclaim my inner bikini bod, and get fit and healthy so I can throw some shapes on the dance floor (do people even say that anymore??!!?)

My NEW YEAR RESOLUTION for 2016 is to lose weight, Keep fit and stay Active. The 1 thing I will change to be a healthier, better me is my My Lifestyle!! Including staying positive & optimistic as well as losing & maintaining a healthy weight. No Fad dieting and diet pills for me. They certainly have no place in a healthy lifestyle!! I am at present focusing on healthy eating and healthy active living for healthy permanent weight loss. Once a week, I turn off the TV and do something a little more physical with my family. Playing games, taking a walk, doing household chores…almost anything will be more active than sitting on the couch. I eat balanced food groups everyday and minimize sugars and carbs. My daily diet includes drinking lots of water, having plenty of vegetables, fruit, whole grains and other high fibre foods . I will ensure that I have plenty of restful sleep. Being healthy to me, means taking care of myself, body and mind; achieving a balance in the day-to-day and feeling good about the choices I make for myself on a regular basis. Balancing my life between work, home and rest/recreation leads to a balance of mind and body. When I eat well and exercise often, I feel healthy and confident Hopefully over the long-term, this outlook keeps me healthy! Finding exercises I enjoy, eating healthy foods that make me feel good, spending time with people I love and most importantly staying positive and being happy! I also try to manage the stress in my Life. In our modern world we tend to let stress run wild. For 2016, I would also like to attempt some relaxation techniques like meditation and Yoga apart from daily physical exercises I do. I think this would certainly help when it comes to relaxing my body and mind. FOR 2016: Eat right & Stay active!

Where to begin….I have been a classic yoyo dieter since forever and of course always regaining the weight plus a little extra. Last year saw me deciding to kick my bad habits to the kerb and be fab and forty. I have managed to shed a fair amount but the festive season saw me going a bit crazy and allowing some of those unwanted kilos back. Help….please…..I need WIA in my life to get back on that healthy journey I was do loving and to reach my ultimate goal. What is my ultimate goal I hear you ask…. it is to be strong in body and strong in mind through correct diet and excercise. I have a 3 year old who watches and imitates all I do, please help me be a good example.

In June 2014 I went to see an orthopaedic surgeon about my ankle problem. He took one look at me and told me I am a perfect candidate for bariatric surgery. I was so disgusted with him I went home and decided I was going to make a plan. In July 2014 I joined Weighless and I did very well. In May 2015 when I went for my ankle op I was 20kg lighter and felt great! After my op I had a very frustrating time as I was not allowed to put any weight on my ankle for 6 weeks. I have struggled since then to lose more and I really want to reach my personal goal weight. I need some help and motivation as I want to lose 3-4kg a month until I get to my goal. This year I am determined to look good by the end of the year and need assistance in getting there!

I would love an opportunity to work with experts in reaching my goal.

Hi Nicola, what an awesome challenge! My New Years resolution has been to make 2016 the year of doing!! And so far, I have been doing pretty well at getting through my “doing” list. But the one thing that I am really battling with is sorting out my weight… before I turn 40… Which is only a few short months away!! So, if was to win a ‘well i am challenge’ entry and be given the opportunity to be guided by professionals, I know I will be a great candidate to get busy “doing” my weight loss and fitness challenge for 2016!!! I look forward to hearing more about it:)

My husband, Jono, and I have an 18 month old busy little boy. We’ve always been sporty and healthy- but 18 months with a high needs child means we’ve given up a lot of exercise and really have had to put our goals second to our sons needs. Our little busy body is now relatively independent and we are able to start our trail runs and mountain biking again with granny’s babysitting help. WellIam is the exact focused kickstart we need to become the inspirational parents we hope to be!

Im fairly active .. sometimes .. but need a policeman to be accountable to because lets be honest life happens and you get busy and a few days down the line excercise goes out the window. Hi Ash. I would please like to do the challenge. I have put on so much weight and I’m just getting larger and more bloated. I feel disempowered, sad and demotivated. I really need help to get fit and healthy again. I have two beautiful children. Emily is 2 and has Cystic Fibrosis. I have put on so much since her birth as she was in hospital for about 6/12 months last year so I fell into a cycle of comfort eating.
I am ready to be heathly and fit.

This year, my fitness goal is to keep on with the healthy eating myself and my wonderful boyfriend started last year. We have found some AMAZING recipes that not only taste fantastic but are pretty “pretty” to look at too! By the end of this year I have 3 ULTIMATE GOALS I would like to achieve: 1) Lose 10kgs… Already 1 kg down. 2) Be able to run 5km comfortable… The Umhlanga Promenade has the BEST view for doing this. 3) Be able to do 10 “boy” pushup… Still a long way to go on this one! I have no doubt that the Well I Am challenge with help both myself and my boyfriend to stay on the HEALTH straight and narrow!

This is what I should have been doing in 2015, but will now COMMIT to do in 2016:
    1.Go for a daily walk/jog/run.
2.Give up processed sugar and white flour.
    3.Make water drink of choice.
4.Take more time each day to focus on what makes ME happy. It may sound selfish but I’ve learned the more I focus on me and what makes me happy, I have more energy and love to share with those I care about!
