We’ve had so much rain in Durban lately which I’m not complaining about as we need it, but it’s a hack come washing day – nothing dries properly! Couple that with our humidity and I’m always stuck with damp sheets and towels (we go through more than a few towels with 4 dogs)
So the cool team at Spindel suggested I try out their nifty product, which has proved revolutionary!
A Spindel takes up almost no space with a footprint of just under 400mm – about the size of a big dustbin, so I placed it right next to my washing machine. After washing a whole load of towels, I then folded 4 large ones and placed them inside the Spindel – you stack the laundry going in, as it makes it much easier to remove.
I placed a small bowl under the front of the Spindel and then ran it for 3 minutes. The amount of water which dripped out was so surprising – about 200ml – and when the towels were removed they were only slightly damp to the touch.
Ok, so why this product and not just the spin cycle on your washing machine or a tumble dryer?
Here are the facts:
A Spindel consumes less than 1% of the energy consumed by an average tumble dryer cycle, in fact, the energy consumed by a 3-minute cycle in a Spindel is comparable to using a 60 Watt light bulb for just 15 minutes!
A Spindel uses spin power instead of heat to remove up to 80% of leftover moisture from fabrics in just 3 minutes.
Talk about energy and fabric quality saving!
I hung the towels up in overcast weather and they were dry in no time and that damp feeling was gone and there was no musty smell – such a score. I’ve since done clothes and sheets and both had equally great results.

24th November 2017 at 10:36 AMYes: Its spin action ensures that fabrics do not tumble around the drum, so there is no stretching, pulling or knotting of garments. There is also no heat applied to the fabrics. This is why Spindel is ideal for those hand-washed delicates such as silk or woollen jerseys.
