EAT + DRINK

Dine4Six

A brilliant new concept is sweeping the foodie scene in South Africa, as Dine4Six has hit our shores. Aimed at satisfying the palates of diners who wish to enjoy a tasting menu at fine dining restaurants, Dine4Six is designed for those who are dining solo – very clever!

Tasting menus the world over are usually intended for two or more diners, so DINE4SIX has been specifically designed with the cultured solo-traveler in mind. This website and app enables users to
book a seat at a table of six, to experience a gastronomic journey at a fine dining restaurant, with a unique menu designed exclusively for the table.

I was invited to the first Durban event last Friday at 9th Avenue Bistro, the 2017 South African Condé Nast Gourmet Magazine’s ‘Favourite Restaurant as voted for by the public’, and we enjoyed the most amazing meal, accompanied by delicious wine and wonderful company – honesty we had the most brilliant evening!

Our 5-Course tasting menu certainly was a journey and I happily rolled home in my food-induced coma after this sensational food and wine pairing:

1st Course:
Raspberry-aged duck breast slivers, served with fresh baby figs, burrata & pine nuts, paired with De Toren Delicate.

2nd Course:
Gin Cured Norwegian Salmon, dotted with creme fraiche, dill and cucumber, served with homemade seed loaf, paired with Silverthorn’s ‘The Genie’ MCC.

3rd Course:
Pork belly & Saldanha Bay mussels in a light carrot & ginger broth, served with a plump langoustine & calamari, paired with De Wetshof Bateleur Chardonnay.

4th Course:
Waters Farm beef short rib & sirloin, with truffled cafe au lait, peas, white beans & pomme dauphine, paired with Bosman Nero d’Avola.

5th Course:
Blueberry cheesecake ice cream, yoghurt panna cotta and cruchcy honey granola, drizzled with roast white chocolate sauce and paired with Frangelico.

And if we weren’t full enough, coffee & petit fours were available to round off the meal!

Service was outstanding and our server, Matt, added to the experience with his knowledge of the food and wine and a wicked personality – this really was such a brilliant way to spend a Friday evening getting to know people you would never usually dine with, over the most delicious food.
I’m absolutely hooked on this concept and cannot wait to try it in another city – it’s available in various countries around the world too – just download the app and open yourself up to a world of culinary adventure!

Thank you to the team at Dine4Six for inviting me and to the team at 9th Avenue Bistro for an incredible meal.

Does this mean you are booked at a table with 6 other guests, meaning you meet on the night
