Cape Town design hotspots

I’ve been in Cape Town for business quite a bit recently, so thought I’d share some of the design hotspots which have caught my eye.

WORK & CO.
A new co-working space on Bree Street, with a twist – Work & Co. hosts a community of entrepreneurs, creatives, small businesses, remote teams and freelancers and aims to, through connecting these people, enable their growth.
Various office solutions are available, from hot desks that can be rented daily, to shared office space, as well as private offices that can accommodate 15 people.
Shared meeting rooms, high-speed internet, UPS, printing stations, a receptionist, landlines and full-time IT support, mean that businesses focus on their business and growth and Work & Co takes care of the rest.

95 at Morgenster
Head to Somerset West for your next Italian foodie fix – Chef Giorgio Nava has launched 95 at Morgenster at the Morgenster Wine & Olive Estate. Renowned for his success at 95 on Keerom, Chef Giorgio brings his Italian flair to the menu, along with a selection of internationally acclaimed Bordeaux-style wines.

Inhouse Brand Architects were responsible for the subtle decor, which doesn’t detract from the magnificent location beside one of the Morgenster estate lakes, with uninterrupted mountain views.
Green vines spread lusciously across the ceilings and I can imagine spending a leisurely afternoon under their cool shade, drinking lots of wine and eating far too much food!

Just 35 minutes from Cape Town, 95 at Morgenster is on Vergelegen Avenue, Off Lourensford Road in Somerset West.

The New Modernist
I didn’t manage to squeeze in a visit to this new store in Bo Kaap – The New Modernist, but it looks fab. Curated by Emma De Crespigny, of C20 Galerie fame, the gallery-like space showcases a range of restored, collectible furniture, which Emma has identified as investment pieces.

Look out for a bit of Scandinavian retro, perhaps a rare Finnish item, but also Emma’s take on old school, with a select range of reproduction furniture, in contemporary upholstery fabrics and finishes.

Wild Clover Breweries in Stellenbosch
Beer making is having its day big time, so naturally the places they make beer had to get cool too.
Wild Clover Breweries has 4 signature beers, each named after an animal – the Eagle Weiss Wit, Blind Mole Pils, Double Owl Ale and Black Dog Porter, so there’s a definite sense of character and eccentricity to the brand and that had to reflect in their new space.

Inhouse Brand Architects nailed the brief to create an industrial space with a homely look and feel and a new restaurant, brewery and deli were conceptualised and created to match the taste and charm of Wild Clover’s home-brewed beer.

Featuring a brew room sheathed in glass, guests are able to view the beer-making process and a restaurant and deli section tie the space together aesthetically, with a big focus on open-plan. Contemporary
hexagonal tiles are integrated into sealed concrete flooring and perspex columns showcase the essential ingredients of beer: yeast, barely, hops and water. Brass pipe light fittings and brown banquet leather seating, along with neutral timber and bold black shelving give the space a warm, home-y vibe.
