Kalk Bay

I took a leisurely drive out to Kalk Bay on Sunday and discovered this little town is one of SA’s best kept secrets. As I drove in, I was immediately drawn to the shops that crammed every space to the left and right of me and parked instantly so I could start walking… First up was Mythology & Co, a gorgeous little shop crammed with beautiful clothes, gifts and accessories, I was in heaven.

I had heard about Beatnik Bazaar and when I saw the clothing range in Mythology, I asked about whether it had its own shop. As fate would have it, the owner, Thaya, had just arrived at Mythology, we hit it off instantly and off we went for a coffee at a delightful ‘hole in the wall’ called Cest la Vie. The iced coffee was heavenly and the pain au chocolat sublime. I then spent the next hour walking it off around Kalk Bay, exploring vintage shops, book stores, clothing and antique furniture shops, a nursery, Big Blue and a tarot reader.

This town is chock-a-block full of inspiration, beautiful views and balmy weather, I’ll definitely be back. Thaya from Beatnik was a gem and I got all the inside info on where to visit from her, nothing like a local to make you feel at home – thank you!

everyone was munching on these long twisty bread sticks, extremely popular and the pain au chocolat I had was sinful, could have ploughed my way through 5!!!
