I only recently resurrected my love of gin, it’s been dormant for a while. But the gin scene has exploded worldwide and in South Africa there are distillers and parties and lots of gushing over garnishes all of a sudden, so it’s pretty clear – #GinIsIn.
I tried Malfy in December when I was stocking up for the festive season – I have to admit it was the sexy AF bottle which first caught my eye and that bottle (now empty) still graces the bar cart. But it was DELICIOUS – like seriously. If you’ve only ever tried the bog-standard gin you can get in the bottle store and then whinged afterwards that it made you melancholy, or you slurred after 1 glass (been there), then this is the gin to change that perception. Malfy is Italian, I’m part Italian, you see it’s a match made in heaven!
So when the Malfy SA team contacted me and asked if I want to do a bit of my own mixology with their tasty tipple I said HELL YES! And I’ve been taste testing for a few weeks now – Saturday’s have been such fun ;)
First up was a gin party with Kathrin Kidger and we went local and muddled ours with a bit of spekboom and lemon. Then we tried it with Fitch & Leedes pink tonic, grapefruit & rosemary and it was fabulous. Then we finished the bottle and everything was amazing… no just kidding, we were well behaved.
I also tried out some of the recipes they sent me and this was my fave:
STRAWBERRY SMASH
2 tots MALFY Gin
4 large or 6 small ripe strawberries, quartered
2 leaves of basil, shredded
Soda Water
Bitters
Combine the gin and 2 of the strawberries and muddle to combine. Add ice, the remaining strawberries and the basil. Top with soda and with 2 drops of bitters, then stir.
Sensational!
Now, you can win yourself a bottle of Malfy and create your very own #MalfyMoment :)

4th July 2017 at 8:42 PMThis would work deliciously in a rooibos gin! Brew a rooibos tea concentrate, let it cool, then add gin and ice. Put a dash of fynbos honey to taste. Voila! Refreshing! Tried and tested!
