When it comes to choosing between a new outfit or an indulgent salon treatment, the salon will win hands down every time for me. There really is nothing better than lying down to be pampered for an hour (or more!) and then leaving feeling rejuvenated and glowing afterwards. Where this is done is just as important though – the whole experience is influenced by the salon surroundings and staff, as well as the scent that greets you when you arrive.
I was recently treated to the most indulgent Dermalogica facial at The Skin & Nail Bar – the most delightful little oasis in Durban North, owned by Kelly Johnson & Jana Bourdouvalis. Their beautiful salon has been so carefully considered, right from the calm, natural decor that greets you, to the delicious smells and luxurious touches throughout your treatment and the finishing touch of a fortune cookie when you are done.
The Skin and Nail Bar has a treatment menu which offers a range of Dermalogica facials, various massage, hand & feet treatments, as well as waxing and tinting. As well as Dermalogica, they also use the powerful medical aesthetics chemical peeling system – Mesoesthetic, along with BT anti-ageing technology, Gelish, Essie, Zoya, Gwenya body products and medi-heel.
My unique Dermalogica facial included a bt-micro™ treatment – an ultrasonic, micro-current technology which is used to enhance the facial, by offering added exfoliation & penetration. Basically a hand-held device is moved over your face while it creates high speed oscillations, leaving your skin smooth, fresh and perfectly prepared for product application – and you don’t feel a thing while it’s happening, but my word did my skin feel like new afterwards! I also loved that while my face mask was on, Kelly gave me a neck & shoulder massage, as well as a hand and arm massage and I was in heaven – I almost begged to just be able to sleep there ;)
I was given my Dermalogica face-mapping results at the end of the treatment, along with a recommended regimen to follow afterwards – but I know I will be back there for another pampering soon, it’s so nice to be spoiled ;)
