Scandi chic – get the look in your own home

Muted tones, straight lines, uncluttered spaces – everyone has gone Scandi-crazy lately as they look to create a more tranquil living space, which evokes relaxation and calm – yes please! So I did a recce of some of the online stores now available to us in SA, where you can order furniture and accessories to get this trend into your own home. There are loads of new stores and some well known ones too, embracing this trend – either importing items from Europe or sourcing/making them here in SA. The prices vary hugely – from pretty reasonable to downright scary, but there’s heaps to inspire you, so go have a browse…

Simply House
A collection of Scandinavian inspired textiles, objects and home accessories including product from By Nord, Bloomingville, Mungo, Skandinavisk, House Doctor and Nordic style at home. Imported from Europe and sold in their online store, or sourced locally in SA. image IMG_1300 IMG_1302 IMG_1301
Monoshop
Stocking their own brand, Mono, as well as Josephine Road, Hoi’Ploy, Fabrikate and Pomme Pomme, you’ll find accessories, textiles, prints, furniture and lighting. This online concept store is strongly inspired by the Scandinavian monochrome theme. imageimage
Esque
A team of interior designers and stylists who collaborate to source and supply local and international brands from the likes of James Mudge & Clinton Friedman to Maison & Brak Furniture. They collaborate with designers too, to give them a platform to sell their products through their online store. image image
Nevada Furniture
This Cape Town & Jhb based company sources and imports Ikea furniture to SA which they then deliver to your door. Either choose from the items they have in the country already, displayed on their website, or browse the Ikea UK website and create a wish list, then send it to them and they will quote you to get the items into SA. They’re also looking at importing Muji soon – major problem!!!

Mr Price Home
The budget-savvy need look no further than good old Mr P. They’ve stepped up their game in a big way and are sourcing some seriously cool furniture and homeware that you can add to your space to give it a decidedly Scandi vibe. Look out for geometric patterns in black and white, as well as light wooden pieces and white pieces with clean lines. image
