I’m currently running a giveaway over on FB and insta where one reader can win a R1000 food voucher from We are Food – a Durban business I really love and want to share with you not only because they are local and lovely, but because they go out of their way to do their bit for the community and the environment too.
I shared some of the initiatives which they’ve embarked on to REDUCE, REUSE + RECYCLE in their business, but wanted to share some more info here on how they’re choosing to make an impact as a small business – and how you do too when you buy from them.
Started in 2013 by Jane Weare & her mum, Didee, We are Food now includes Amy Weare too, making this a real recipe for success:
close family + strong women = powerhouse!
Together they’ve grown their business so that We are Food meals are now available in stores around KZN, Cape Town, Joburg and Pretoria, as well as online from their website, making them an important part of the local economy, creating jobs and contributing to the success of South African business.
All We are Food packaging is either made from recycled materials, or is recyclable. Plastic tubs are 100% recyclable (PP #5), BPA-free, heat resistant in the microwave and dishwasher safe and they can be safely reused again and again – they make the perfect storage containers for food, but are also greatly appreciated as donations to schools for arts ands crafts.
Their aluminium foil containers are microwave and oven safe and are 100% recyclable, as are their cardboard boxes and meal sleeves, which are also made from recycled paper, with water-based/food grade coating. And their paper carrier bags are 100% biodegradable – WIN!
With over 100 menu items to choose from, you’re spoiled for choice and stocking up for the week or month has never been easier! Order meals for those in between days when you don’t feel like cooking, or to take to work for lunch – or order specifically for entertaining – they do entire Easter and Christmas menus so you look like a PRO!
I have my favourites for sure – the butternut laksa vegan bowl is simply sublime and we’ve eaten our fair share of fish cakes this year, plus they do the most decadent desserts and they stock Blendid smoothies – just add water or milk and blitz and you have the most delicious smoothie!
The best part is that none of their food is made with strange additives or preservatives – this is all REAL food made by humans – so you’re eating well and doing your bit for the environment too.
How you ask?
We are Food currently use just 3.12 litres of water per serving produced, so every time you eat one of their meals, you’re saving around 16 litres of water!
Thank you We are Food for all that you do – your bit for the environment, your bit for local business, but most of all for keeping us well fed with delicious food x
